"Retaliation from Humanity's Shield Part Two: Clash!":Koga sonido'd from an opening gargantua. "Hello, Captain." Koga whispered in the Captain's ear, swiftly removing Vale's zanpakuto from his person.
"You will not get away, Espada." said the Captain, reaching for him own blade as Koga wrapped his arms around him. He held the Captain's arms tightly to his body.
"Who said anything about getting away, Captain? You mistake me for a man who runs away from battle. I am merely a distraction that moves with haste. But, I do not run." Koga sonido'd backwards into the gargantua as it began closing, with the Captain still in his grasp. The gargantua closed.

"Last Shot: Aftermath": (continued)Nori called back the power of her zanpakuto as another fire was extinguished, but still it was not enough. Fires blazed around them threatening to devour everything in its path, including the lives that got in its way.
Folding her fan letting the shorter one hang at her side the larger one rest on her shoulder as she watched two shinigami pull another from the rubble of a collapsed building. As a gust of wind blew past, strands of long sliver hair rustled around her. She sighed letting her eyes close. She had seen many battles, many deaths and a lot of destruction, but never has she seen it on the place she called home. Every division suffered from slight to sever damage, the fourth division was the only one still left in one piece. If not for the barrier that was placed around it, it surely would have suffered as well.
Opening her eyes she looked around the area again trying to locate her lieutenant, Izuru, she had not seen him since they parted ways to aid in finding the injured and put out the raging fires engulfed the Soul Society. This fire was different though. Nori had never seen a fire burn so hot and fight against the force of being extinguished. A wild fire for sure, but this wild fire was not even effected by a back draft. It was like it was feeding not only on the elements that kept it alive, but the reiryoku around them. If that was the case… It will destroy them all before as well as the Soul Society before it dies out.
Nori shook her head opening her fans once more with hearing the calling of her name. She was needed in aiding the extermination of another uncontrollable blaze. As she shunpo’ed off toward the cries of her name. As she crossed the courtyard she saw Izuru below helping another shinigami with on of the wounded.

Izuru stepped back from healing the young man, wiping sweat from his brow. He was tired, but not to the point of breaking a sweat. It was the heat around him. It was hotter then the pits of hell, or at least he imagined it was. He looked up as a burst if wind blew around him. Above he saw Captain Mutsu rushing off to aid in battle against the rampant fire around them. They were limited in the ones fighting against the conflagration that raged around them. As were they growing limited in room for the wounded. Division four was swamped and word around the masses was the Captain Commander was dead. Izuru knew this not to be true and he lifted the spirits of the ones that believed this by telling them it was not so.
Wiping the sweat away again he looked off in the distance seeing yet another tent being set up, out and away from the flames for the critically wounded. That made the seventh one so far. With healing ones that suffered the less damage right on the spot it saved more room for the ones that were critically wounded. However, the once that were lost in this catastrophe were lining the streets and only growing the deeper they dug in the ruins of what they once called home. Fade

"Instrument of Balance and Hope":Raelin and Ishida appeared from their gate of light on the cliffside of Soukyoku Hill. Shining brightly, Raelin hung onto her fellow Quincy. Both sets of eyes widened at the destruction and the unnatural blazes still eating away at more buildings. Reaching for more lives. The angel’s eyes hardened. Raelin swallowed, burying her nausea, and stepped away from Ishida, standing on her own.
“We’re running out of time,” she said. “I can’t reach the dead.”
Her wings spread out on her back and she looked over at her companion. “I fear the price of this reversal is going to be painful,” she whispered, holding up one of her arms. “Sorry to undo your work.”

Uryu placed a hand to Raelin's shoulder. "What are you planning, dear Raelin?" Uryu pushed his frames up his nose. "What reversal do you speak of? You can not undo this damage. You can only halt it. It is not our place to change the events of this world or another. You leave such things to the gods."

Raelin nodded. “No, I can’t stop the fires or stop the dead from going to their rest.” She turned around to face her fellow Quincy. “But I can prevent those who would fall into death if nothing is done for them. I can reverse their fate and hope it’s enough to stop imbalance wrought today." She reached up to her wings, plucking a feather. "Each feather can save a life," she whispered, "but there's always a price."

"And, what is that price?" Uryu asked, removing his glasses and wiping the soot from the lenses. "I will not allow you to give your life for theirs. Or, even come close to it." He replaced his glasses and pulled his cross from his neck. "Well?"

Raelin smiled and touched his cheek. “My life is never the price of the reversal, Ishida-san.” She let her hand fall. “I think this time it will be feeling each feather ripped from my wings until I have done all I can.” She looked back up at him. “But I could be wrong.”

"I hope you are not, Raelin. For both our sakes." Uryu looked out over the hill, shaking his head at the destruction below. "Do what you must, Raelin. But, do not go too far. I will seek out the Captain Commander. And, see where I am needed."

"Wait!" Raelin grabbed Ishida's arm before he could move away. She blushed and lowered her head. "Please stay until it is complete," she whispered. She paused. "I will do what I must.... but I don't feel safe being alone here, after....."
After we both lost so much here.
"I'm sorry," she murmured. She shouldn't show weakness. It wasn't the Quincy way. Not for something like this.

Uryu smiled slightly and nodded. "I will stay until your task is complete." He placed his cross back around his neck. "Then, we will go to the Captain Commander and you will rest. Am I understood?"

She nodded, held on for a moment longer, and then let go, stepping away again.
Her wings spread wide before turning blindingly bright. As Ishida looked away, Raelin screamed. Two of her pinfeathers ripped from the wings and disappeared into the inferno below. Face hardening, she fell into a trance to escape the pain as more and more feathers tore from the ligaments of her wings.
Speeding into different directions, each feather restored the soul it touched. Young and old, solider, civilian, or child. The feathers glowed against their brows or chests, protecting them from further harm. Not fading until the danger had passed.
Back on the hill, bruises, cuts and welts opened on the angel's arms, and two burns appeared on her face, the mirror of some injuries below. She fell to her knees and opened her bleary eyes as what remained of her wings faded. “It is done," she murmured, exhausted, bearing with the echoes of pain on her body.

Uryu sat on the ground behind her and took her in his arms. As Raelin settled against Uryu, he held tightly to her. "Rest now. You have done well. The Soul Society will be grateful and forever indebted to you." He let his chin rest atop her head as he gently wiped blood from her face and hands. "Now they know..." he whispered. "The Quincy have returned."

Raelin relaxed against Ishida with a relieved sigh. The waves of shock, fear, and worry coupled with the backlash of pain and despair had worn her out completely. And though a spike of anxiety went through her at being so vulnerable here, that too faded away in her current position of warmth. She was safe. And not alone.
Thank you, Uryu, for letting me stay with you.
She quickly fell asleep.

Uryu held Raelin close, hoping his hold was comforting. Closing his eyes, he sighed and shook his head. "What a way to end a war." After a few moments of sitting in what little silence the Soul Society had to offer, Uryu looked up to the a familiar red atop a permanent scowl. "Renji Abarai."
