As a silence stretched between them, Soji growled something below his breath. “It’s still too soon,” he muttered. “People are still idiots.” Ayase patted his shoulder but he pushed it off, looking around the crowd. Finding Mitsuo smiling at a blushing girl, he took off in that direction. He needed a distraction.

Makino frowned. “I’m so-”
Yumichika set his finger against her lips again. “This is not something you have to apologize for,” he murmured, violet eyes unreadable. Even sad.
“But-”
He didn’t let her get another word out by smoothing his finger over her succulent lips. “No, dear bird, it is alright. Even Sojiro will be alright. The fact that you don’t know why he’s upset means you haven’t been exposed to all the pieces of that ugliness.” He reluctantly lowered his hand. “And I would prefer to keep it that way, but there’s something in your eyes that says you want to know.”
He chuckled.
“Ask the clingy friend if you want the answers. I think he knows. Or perhaps Ukitake.” He paused. “But it is not a tale many will tell. Because it still has its acidity and poison claws." He leaned closer and kissed her cheek. "Be careful, pretty dove. And don't clip your beak before it can peck a certain bear in our midsts." He pulled back and bowed. "I have to mingle more, my lady. It has been wonderful breathing the same air as you." He rose and turned away in a fluid movement, disappearing into the throng.

Makino stepped back taken by Yumichika's final words as she stumbled into a nearby chair. Thank the Gods it was there or she would have injured herself with falling.
"Thank the Gods?!" The words came from her lips quietly and quickly. She looked, standing up at the same time searching the room for Sojiro.
When she saw him and Mitsuo across the room she made a path to their area. When she stepped up beside Sojiro she did not look his way but spoke very softly for only him to to hear as she looked down at her hands.
"I am sorry Soji-kun... I did not mean to pry. I will die with that bit of information if that is how you want it." She lifted her head and looked slowly his way as he was looking at her.

In there silence Shin walked up and faced the two of them, his hands on his hips as he now looked to Makino. "I can't believe he did that to you, Maki-chan. Top of your class, master swordsmen. Kido expert. Who does he think he is with talking to you like that? If Masanobu knew he talked to you like that he would remove his head. Captain or not."
Makino's eyes lit up with the mention of her family name, her hands lifting quickly as she waved them frantically at Shin to shut him up, but he only continued to run his mouth.
"If Lord--"
He was cut off as Makino's hand went over his mouth to finally shut him up.

Mitsuo's attention was caught the second he heard the name Masanobu. Turning he walked over to the three. "Tori, huh? More like Makino Masanobu. The Hogoshazoku for the Noble clan, Koriyama." He circled around her with his hands in his pockets.
"How did you get out of that century old contract? Makino Masanobu. And how did you get past registration to be enrolled in the Shino Academy?" He stopped behind her leaning in over her shoulder as he whispered in her ear. "It must suck to have to down play your abilities and hide your reiatsu from all--"
It happened in a flash, Mitsuo finding himself flat on his back and looking up at the white ceiling above them. He coughed a few times and rolled to his side curling into a fetal position.
"You bitch." He groaned in agony wrapping his arms across his torso and cringing.

Makino looked to Mitsuo as he lay to the floor under her. With her eyes narrowed she leaned over him. “Learn to keep your mouth shut or I will close it for you. Permanently.” She looked over to Shin as well. “The same goes for you.”
She offered her hand to Mitsuo as he took it and she pulled him to his feet. One of his arms still wrapped around his torso. She quickly steadied him when he staggered to his left. “There is no way that throw hurt you that bad.”

Soji chuckled slightly as he steadied Mitsuo on the other side. “I guess I am not the only one with secrets,” he mumbled, helping him to a chair. He looked to Tori and his smile grew. “I won’t tell either.” His good mood deflated and he turned away.

Kairo emerged from the shadows as Sojiro headed out. He grinned at the friends. "I better check on that kid or there are quite a few people who will have my head," he grinned, "my captain, for one." He turned around, paused, and then turned around again. His eyes glinted strangely. "Tori-san, I think you should-"
But someone cut him off by stepping in front of him.
"Too late," he quipped.

Post by Captain Byakuya Kuchiki on May 23, 2016 21:45:41 GMT -6
Captain Kuchiki stared down at the female student in front of him. Where at first he had been unsure of who she had been, it had become apparent when she threw the male student. Masanobu's line. A part of what remained of the Hogoshazoku. “What are you doing here?” the noble demanded, right to the point.

With the appearance of the head of the Kuchiki Clan, Makino dropped to one knee lowering her head. "Kuchiki-sama. I apologize for the disruption." She remained in the bow until she was spoke to and released to rise to a stand.
She could feel his cold gray-slate eyes boring down on her as she stayed her position. Even with hearing one of her class mates calling out to her she remained still and silent in the presence of the man before her.

The captain stared down at her for a few minutes in silence, purposely ignoring the noise as it grew as more caught onto what was happening. He sighed. "Walk with me, woman." When she rose, he strode towards one of the exits, knowing she would follow him, his gaze keeping others back. When they had reached a place of silence, he turned around. "Speak."

Makino nodded sternly to the man. "Kuchiki-sama. Please do not pull me from the academy." When his eyes scolded her from her pleases, she sighed, her head lowering as the thought of her cover now being broken. Her head then shook in shame.
"I wanted to do this alone. That's why I changed my family name to my mothers, and I concealed most of my reiatsu." She looked quickly back up to him, her hands clenching into tight fists at her side, her voice slightly raising. "I can do this alone." Her voice dropped an octave or two as Byakuya raise a brow. "I don't need outside help. I don't need the influence of my family. Or my friends. I want to do this alone. Please Kuchiki-sama. Please let me do this my way."

Byakuya fell into the silence he was so well known for - the one that would unnerve most of the people around him. But the royal guard was different - should have been different. The woman started to fidget. He closed his eyes. It betrayed how worried she was at losing this.
“Why?” he asked.
“What?”
“If you used your family and your full skills, you would have a place in the soul reapers already. You would get to protect as you wish.”
“I don’t want to be special!” she started loudly before lowering her head and folding her arms before her.
“Sometimes, we are born special,” he murmured. A moment later, he released a louder sigh. “And sometimes, there is nothing we wish to do more,” he whispered. He turned his back on her, his mind on the destruction that had been wrought on them all. Of the wounds…. “What is your name now?” he asked.
“Kuchiki-dono?”
“Do as you will. But if you hold back when the time comes to prove yourself,” he turned around, “or when you’ve found what you will guard, then you will dishonor your family. And yourself. Remember that.”

Post by Captain Tsukiro Ashimitsu on May 23, 2016 22:39:32 GMT -6
Hearing all the commotion Tsukiro looked over from the young man he was speaking to. His eyes widened when he saw Kairo standing with the youngest Masanobu child. What was a Hogoshazoku for the Noble clan, Koriyama doing here in the academy? There was no need. If she wanted to be part of the Gotei all that was needed was to pick a division.
When he saw Byakuya step up to her then lead her away his heart sunk. He looked to Riku and stood. "Come with me, Riku. There is someone we need to save from the clutches and judgment of a grumpy Nobleman."

Riku looked from his future captain to his line of sight, seeing Makino talking to Byakuya Kuchiki. He blinked several times in confusion. Didn't Maki-chan want to be in Squad Five? But then again, Makino's eyes did not look happy, and neither did the noble's. He followed Captain Ashimitsu as the captain walked sternly and quickly over to them.
"...when you’ve found what you will guard, then you will dishonor your family. And yourself. Remember that.”
"There will be no dishonor because--" Makino replied desperately.
"Kuchiki!" The captain said with a firm bite in his tone. The two of them turned towards the odd couple. "I don't know what all you've said to her, but I can imagine. She's a Masanobu. She will not fail. You know this. My ancestors were held to the same exact standard. Failing is not allowed."
Riku moved around to stand next to Makino, but still close to Captain Ashimitsu. He took a hold of Makino's kimono sleeve. "Maki-chan. What's going on? Are you okay?"
