Kuchiki turned to the Shihoin leader, releasing the young woman from his judgement. “Ashimitsu-Shihoin, I am more than in my right to ask her what she is doing. Both the Nobility of the Soul King and their Hogoshazoku were greatly reduced after the last war.”
“She will enter the Gotei when she has fulfilled her mission here. That has not changed," Tsukiro reasoned.
The noble fell silent for a moment, looked to her again, and then nodded to Ashimitsu. “Then I will take my leave.” He turned around and paused. “It is too soon. It is imperative that no one else dies for the sake of personal pride.” He continued on his way.

Tsukiro watched as the Noble walked away, he walked up to her with a bright smile across his lips. "It's very admirable to be doing this on your own, Masanobu. May I ask why you decided to do this alone?"
Makino shook her head, there were something she wanted to keep to herself and as it stood, the ones standing around when Byakuya approached her knew of her origins, or at least they had some sort of clue.
Tsukiro chuckled lightly. "Alright then, I will leave it alone." He turned from her and Riku as he walked back into the hall. When he looked over his shoulder Riku and Makino were still standing in the same place.
"Are you coming? There is still time, Masanobu. Shinji is still walking the hall."

Riku's eyes lit up and he nodded quickly, trotting over to the captain's side. "Yes, sir! I'm coming!"
Riku stayed at Captain Ashimitsu's side, every inch of him vibrating with happiness and pride. He really did it. He was able to talk to Tsukiro Ashimitsu and impress him. He already felt like he was a part of Division Eight. And even though this moment would have to end, he was still getting to stick by his role model's side for the duration of the assembly and meet and greet. He was so happy he could cry. His dreams were so close, it was as if he had his fingers around it, clutching it like a delicate and valuable prized jewel. He had his hands around it, but he still had to wait until he was told he could take it.
He briefly looked up at his future captain, then down at his hands, clenching them into fists.
Finally, things are looking up for me!

Captain Ashimitsu was right. There was still time. She did not blow her chance yet, but if she did not fix the incident from their first meeting Captain Hirako's first and final impression of her will be set in stone. She stepped back into the hall as Riku and the Captain walked further ahead of her. She stopped and looked around.
There. Across the room from her stood the Captain of the Fifth division. It was a straight path to face him once more. With a deep breath she started her path forward. Reaching him she stopped in front of him and bowed to the man.
"Captain Hirako, sir." She called his name as she bowed before him. "I am Makino Tori and it would be an honor to serve under you in your division." She spoke clearly and straight to the point as she stood and looked him in the eyes.

Shinji’s eyes shone as she met his gaze, barely keeping another sneer back for her nerve of returning in front of him. But it wasn’t easy with the way her pretty head changed from an eager, determined jut to a bloody heap with a certain demon’s laughter ringing in his ears. “And why would you want to do that?” he finally snapped. Both at her for being what she was and at himself his damned haunting memories.
He could care less about his temper. He was the Oni. Now, he just made it more real.

Makino held her ground she did not flinch nor waver in anyway at the Captain's attitude. She knew what he was or at least what he had become and she did not fear that nor would she ever.
"Sir. Out of all the Captain's that have or ever will serve the Gotei 13 I believe you to be the most admirable of them all. No one can come close to your strength in power nor will in my eyes. You have over come obstacles that most would have let ruin their life. You sir have not only learned how to conquered them, but use them for the good of the Gotei 13. In my eyes that demands great respect."
She paused and keep her gaze locked with his, waiting for his return comment as his stern, hard eyes studied hers.

He didn’t like this one bit, the way she was staring at him, almost dictating where his attention should go. And the way she wasn’t flinching. At all. He probably hadn’t been cruel enough. Or she just had that much stubbornness in her. And now, he doubted the same trick would work again. How else should he be rid of her?
The hybrid scoffed. At himself.
“If they taught that flattery here, you’re laying it on quite thick,” Shinji snorted. “No one comes close to my strength, huh? And the most admirable? That’s a mess of an overstatement. I suppose you would be stupid enough to say that I belong in the commander’s seat.”
“No, I-”
His eyes narrowed. “I’m talking, parrot.” He leaned forward, purposely putting himself in her space. “You’re a loud one, but if you think that’s enough to make the cut, I hate to burst your bubble. Actually, no, I don’t. Because that’s what I do. If I really am all that, then you’d best be something close, don’t you think. By your own words.” He rose. “I look forward to taking you down a step next time I deign to be around. See if you can grow from being a simple sideshow.”
Done with being nice, he turned on his heel. “I’m going, White Hair. I’ve been here long enough,” he called out. Without waiting for a response, he made his way to the exit, muttering about not collecting birds.

Juushiro chuckled and shook his head with a slight smile, wondering which one was growling more, youmg Masanobu-Tori or his fellow captain at her stubborn persistence. But seeing Masanobu clenching her hands as if she was about to chase him, he decided to ponder that at another moment and strode over to intercept her. Shinji needed to leave. He could see it in the hybrid’s eyes. It wasn’t time to argue with him a third time.
Reaching the student’s side, he set a hand on her shoulder, making her jump. He smiled. “Let him go and prepare your comeback later, Tori-san. The fact that he spoke to you that long, no matter how abrasively, is a point in your favor. But now is not the time to push it.”
“He’s an ass,” Mitsuo muttered. “I say he deserves her screaming at him.”
“He is who he is,” Juushiro responded. “Shinji is known for his bad mouth and attitude. He is also known for being blunt and uncaring. But he is a captain. The captain of the Fifth Division - or what remains of it. There are reasons for the way he acts the way he does.”
“You’re excusing him because you’re too nice!” Mitsuo snapped.
“No,” Juushiro murmured, “that is not why."

"He lost a lot in the last war. A long standing Lieutenant for one." Makino lifted her head from gazing at the floor and looked at Mitsuo. "I can see where he would still be annoyed at all this. I am sure he would love to rip apart the one that caused her death." She paused for a brief second and cocked her head at Mitsuo. "Something you should know, IF, you would have followed the war better."
Mitsuo narrowed his eyes at her. "Well excuse me~ for not being a Masanobu and well versed on the captains."
His cocky tone hit a nerve with her as Makino's hands clenched at her side once more and she glared at Mitsuo. "Your training to become a Soul Reaper! A defender of the Soul Society! It is just not your enemies you need to know, but your comrades as well!" She stepped up getting in his face as her tone dropped to blow normal. "Because if you don't know your comrades as well as your enemies. You will never be prepared to fight along side of them." She turned away from him. "Grow up and start thinking of someone other than yourself, Mitsuo." She bowed to Juushiro.
"Captain Ukitake, sir. Where is it, that I may sign up for your class?"

Eyes dancing at her outburst, Juushiro reached into his kimono and handed both of them a piece of chocolate. “Calm down, both of you. Knowledge by itself is neither a strength or weakness. It is how you use it that makes it such. Some people only need to know so much. That is their choice. Others, such as yourself Tori-san, feel that knowledge will make them more useful. But there is not a right or wrong choice in the matter.”
He paused, letting them digest that and hopefully soothe any irritation. “As to my class, it is a voluntary class so that I don’t need to worry about signups. You may come and go as you please. Leave if I upset you. Even arrive late if something happened.” His eyes twinkled. “But I reserve the right to call on you if you do catch my attention by doing the latter. Does that sound fair?”

Etsuya walked in, rubbing his cheek. "Sounds like something I will pass on. Considering, my marks aren't all that high. And, I don't want to add anything else...And..." His eyes grew slightly large when he looked to Makino.
"What did I miss?"

Makino looked to Etsuya as he stood across from her. "Nothing..." she smiled innocently at him. "Nothing at all." She paused for a second. "You know if your nose was not always in a book or sniffing out pretty girls you might know what is going on. Oh!" She snapped her fingers. "I do have a message for you and Mitsuo from Captain Zaraki."
"YOU SAW HIM!? WHERE?!" The two bellowed in unison.
Makino chuckled again. "No. He is not here. He don't like things like this, but if you knew the Captain of the division you wanted to go into... You would know this bit of information." The two glowered at her.
"What's the message, Maki-chan?" Etsuya asked her shoving his hands into his pockets.
"That IF the two of you want his audience, you had better show something ‘fun’ during your next session in the training yards." She paused crossing her arms over her chest. "I guess you two are lacking in the field of impressing the man. Better step up your game." She chuckled remembering that Sojiro's mother had beaten the man. "Or maybe he just wants Soji-kun worse than you two show-offs."

Riku bowed to Captain Ashimitsu as he headed back to the stage. The two of them had talked for a short while longer before they had to part ways. The captain waved at him before disappearing into the crowd. He had never been more proud of himself. Riku turned and made his way back to his friends with a wide smile on his face that refused to fall. At least until he remembered that things had not gone nearly as smoothly for Makino. When he reached the group, he tapped on Makino's shoulder.
"Maki-chan, are you okay? Did you get a second chance with that shark?"

Makino looked to Riku and smiled. "Yes I did, Riku-kun. He was still very sharp with me, but I think at least he is paying attention to me now. With that I know I have a much better chance in making a place in his division for me."
Riku smiled warmly. "I am so happy to hear that."
Makino nodded with a bright smile. "So how did your talk go with the Captain of the Eight. Are you a sure thing?"

A firm hand went to Makino's shoulder as she looked back at who it was. Shin smiled warmly at her. "There is no such thing as a sure thing. Well," he chuckled softly lifting his hand from her shoulder and letting it comb through his blonde hair. "Unless you're a Noble. Right, Maki-chan?"
She rolled her eyes at him and looked back to the others. He sighed heavily as his hand dropped to his side and his shoulders slumped forward. "Sorry Maki-chan. It just really upset me to see him treat you that way. You don't deserve that type of treatment. You're better than that. Better than us."
All eyes in the group went to Shin with his statement a few huffs, groans and glares aimed pointedly at him.
