"Sekijouten..." Ryo paused. Another warm smile. "Taiyoufurea...She and I have connected in ways I have never imagined. She is strong. As am I." Ryo looked across the desk at Hitsugaya. He seemed uncomfortable. "Sajin and I were sparring and he was saying...Well, he said to me all the things I had been thinking of myself. It felt cruel coming from him. Worse when I realized what he was doing."
Ryo placed a hand to her side where her blade was tethered. "Sajin is good at bringing the best out of people. Perhaps you should go see him..."

"Hmm..." Hitsugaya hummed with a nod. He let out a small smile. "He is an honorable man. He was nothing but kind to me even from the first day I became a captain. He never showed me anything but support." He laughed softly. "I have to say, was surprised to find out what he actually looked like. I guess I'd be lying if I said I didn't sort of miss the wolf look. Rangiku... she talked about it for weeks. I couldn't shut her up about it."
He cast his gaze to the side, staring off into space. He didn't want to think about Rangiku right now, so he focused his thoughts on the wolf captain. He remembered the Winter war. That Komamura and Hisagi were the ones to take out Tosen. They took it upon themselves to right their friend and captain's wrong. "Yeah... You picked a good one, Hirabayashi. And Hisagi is one of the best lieutenants a captain could inherit. He deserves to be a captain himself one day, if he wishes. He single handedly kept this Division afloat after the first war. Kira with Third as well."

"None of that sounds like you're interested in helping yourself, Captain." Ryo sighed and folded her hands in her lap. "I'm not going to lecture you. You are fully capable of making decisions on your own. But, I will tell you that you would be doing yourself a great disservice by not exploring every option. I am not saying that Sajin Komamura is a cure-all. I am saying that he has a knack for bringing out the best in people. There is nothing to lose here."
"I hear you, Hirabayashi. I do, and I thank you for the advice," Hitsugaya assured her. He laced his own fingers together in his lap, leaning forward slightly as he glanced down at the floor then back up at Hirabayashi. "I will speak with him soon. I still have other things I need to tend to, but rest assured I will heed your advice."
Ryo smiled and gave a nod. "Again, I'm not trying to tell what to do. I can only tell you what worked for me." She tilted her head to the side. "My training facilities are always open, if you want to train. And,-" Ryo looked toward the door.
Sajin slid open the door to the Ninth's office. He stepped him with a growl. "Captain Hitsugaya!" he growled. The large man shunpo'd over to the chair where the petite Captain sat. He grabbed the tiny man by the collar with his collar and pulled him up out of his seat. Of course, the tiny man struggled which caused Sajin to growl. Then, with a quick jerk, Sajin pulled Hitsugaya close and wrapped his arms around him. A hug only a Komamura could give.
Ryo chuckled. "Enough, Puppy. Put the Captain down." She watched as Sajin gently placed the Captain back in his seat.

Toshiro was sure Komamura cracked a rib. Maybe several. His breath wheezed in and out of him as he doubled over in his chair after the beast of a man had set him back down. He inhaled deeply, his hand on his chest. Komamura was one man who would always make him feel three feet tall, even with his fairly recent growth spurt. Once Toshiro had caught his breath and calmed down, he looked up at the hulking figure of Sajin Komamura, his neck craning uncomfortably in an effort to stare up into his face and not at his stomach.
"C-captain Komamura... It's good to see you. I appreciate the concern, but I assure you I'm doing well." Except he maybe now needed a chiropractor.

"Are you alright, Captain?" Ryo leaned over her desk. "Puppy, you said you would be gentle."
"He's just being dramatic." huffed Sajin. He huffed and crossed his arms over his chest. Then, he gave a toothy grin. His smile was wide and his eyes beamed with joy. Sajin was happy to the Captain. He wished to sit and join his wife and the Captain. To hear about the last few weeks of the boy's growth.
"What brings you through the Ninth, Sajin?" questioned Ryo. "Besides the obvious."
"Ippei and I have a scheduled sparring time at your training facilities."
"You could spar at your own Division's training grounds. Why mine? Do you think it will get that far out of hand." The massive man nodded. "Well," Ryo looked to Hitsugaya and smiled. She turned her attention back to Sajin. "Be on on your way, Puppy. The Captain and I were having a delightful conversation."

Hitsugaya waved both of the captains off, shaking his head. "It's fine. No harm done." Hitsugaya thought for a moment before turning and looking up at the massive figure beside him. "Perhaps I could join you on one of your training sessions one day, Komamura. It may prove to be helpful for me to get a fresh perspective on things."
Sajin nodded as he waved over his shoulder. “Whenever you’re ready, Captain Hitsugaya.”
Hitsugaya watched as the wolf-man left the office as quickly as he had come, bending down to exit the too-small doorway. Hitsugaya turned back to Hirabayashi. "Well, I suppose I should be on my way as well. I've kept you from your work long enough. My apologies for the mix-up."

Ryo waved a hand. "It's fine. If you want to stay, you're always welcome to. I could always use a distraction. I think the only Captain that enjoys doing paperwork is Kuchiki." Ryo chuckled. "But, you seem eager to leave. So, we'll catch up later." Smiling as Hitsugaya rose from his seat and headed toward the door. "We will.""I would avoid Kurotsuchi, if you don't want to drown in a sea of complaints. Give it a few days..." Ryo chuckled. Hitsugaya chuckled and shook his head. "I rarely have intentions of communicating with that mad man. I would much rather hold a conversation with Nemu or Akon," he said as he placed his hand on the doorknob. "Have a good rest of your day, Captain Hirabayashi." "Until next time, Captain." Ryo smiled. She sighed before looking down at the paperwork on her desk. It was work regarding her Lieutenant. They needed to have a word. END RP "Protect"

Bleach Unrated: REBOOTEDCurrent Arc: The ChaosEpisode 560 "Heavy Discussion": Shunsui didn’t know what to expect from this visit. The last time he had spoken to Ryo, after a late night at the memorial, she had asked for his guidance in finding her fire again. She had doubted she could still be a captain at this time and had asked for his trust — and she had rekindled her own faith through the trial of battle. However, soon after, he received a letter respectfully calling the status of other officers in a similar state into question. Discussing this kind of situation wasn’t how he had picture congratulating her for getting her vigor back. But he couldn’t ignore such a letter either. Shaking his head, the commander walked up to Ninth Division and knocked on the door of Lady Captain Hirabayashi.

Ryo looked up from her paperwork and towards the door. She sighed. Ryo set her pen to the table. “Come in.” she said.
As the Commander entered and closed the door behind him, Ryo rose from her seat. She bowed. “To what do I owe this meeting? Something serious, I assume…You’ve never met me in my office.” Ryo sat back down in her seat. “Is this about my letter?”
Shunsui remained standing. “It is. It didn’t seem like something I should ignore or something I could give a swift reply to.” He paused and adjusted his hat. “Since you’ve already mentioned it, I’ll go ahead and ask. Is the stance you expressed in your letter still the same?”
Ryo nodded. “It is. And, if you’re here because the plan is to remove me from my seat as well, I see no point in that. I came to you when I needed you. I sought out help. They haven’t. They won’t. Not until you force their hand.”

Shunsui smiled, albeit weakly. “There are some it may take such measures, and it’s not a fun part of my job. But in this case, perhaps they sought help from someone who was more able to give them what they needed.” He started to walk a bit as he spoke. “I may be the commander, who, until recently, was jolly and easy to laugh with, but I do not know all of my people as well as I hope I do you.
I know of Suzume Shizuka and the trauma she faced, but she finds me entirely intimidating and speaks more with Nanao or other officers when delivering messages from 5th division or later, 10th division. So I cannot offer her the same advice or support as I hopefully gave you. Shizuka and her captain, Hitsugaya took a joint retreat of their own volition. It was probably too short to accomplish everything that comes with that kind of training, but I see it as a step in the right direction. Making her own decision on how to deal with the past. You may believe that she needs therapy to deal with the trauma of Las Noches, but for her, that may seem like surrendering to it. To being a victim. I’d rather let her move forward now.
In time, if she wishes to seek counsel, it will be there, but if I take that choice away from her, or from Rukia or my Nanao, I take away their power when they can reclaim it." He looked over to her for a moment. "As you have rekindled your flame." He returned to his pacing.
"When Rukia was assaulted the first time, she turned violent and unstable, unable to determine friend from foe. That is the only reason she was sedated and isolated from her friends and family when she was returned to us the first time. It wasn’t pleasant for anyone involved but it was necessary.
I followed a similar methodology when current Captain Ashimitsu was nearly killed by Ichimaru when chasing Miyamoto and nearly gave up.
However, this time, Lieutenant Kuchiki came out of this attack stronger than her older brother. He destroyed a portion of his ancestral home to find a moment of solace. She confronted what she believed to be the illusion of her beloved captain and when it was revealed to be truly him, tried to rally support to get him help. Yes, she carries scars from her time in Las Noches. All of us do. But she is focusing on the present. In addition, she may be adopted, but she is a Kuchiki. It would be a weakness to seek a stranger’s help for her nightmares. They are fiercely independent creatures who seek their own way in all things.” He looked out of the window. “This was not the first time she suffered for being part of the Gotei. That girl is strong. Give her time, Ryo. She’ll give you a run for your money.”
He sighed once more. “Those two will be alright, and if they need help, they have closer superiors, their captains that are watching over them, woefully balancing their own needs with that of the people that follow them. Juushiro will manage it. He always has. But if you want to worry and watch for someone, old friend, look out for our ice captain. This war with Aizen has taken so much from him and the kind of healing he needs is not something that comes easily. When he is also without his partner Hyourinmaru.”

Ryo held her breath for a moment then exhaled slowly with a nod. "I would understand taking this approach if these young women were not in positions of power. If they weren't tasked with protecting others...They don't have scars...Their wounds are open and festering. And, will remain so until they seek help." Ryo looked at the man pacing her office. "Remaining in their current positions makes them dangerous. We are challenged enough from outside forces...We don't need fires starting within."
Rising from her seat, Ryo shook her head. "With all due respect, Commander Kyoraku...Captain Ukitake isn't in a position to handle this...You are. You lean on him as if..." Ryo narrowed her eyes as she looked to the Commander. "As if you two share the position of Captain Commander..." Ryo was quiet for a moment.
"I don't see this conversation...progressing in a meaningful manner, Commander. You will tell me what you're going to do. And, having lost faith in you, I will disagree. That is the short of it." Ryo pushed her chair beneath her desk. "So...Must we continue?"

The commander narrowed his own eyes down at the petite captain behind her desk. “So less than a month after you ask me if I still had faith in you, you’ve lost trust in me? Perhaps you are the one who needs to visit the doctor, Lady Hirabayashi, if you are going to be so moody. You haven’t even spoken to the ladies in question and you dismiss their strength while you spent a month reaching to others for your own. I never expected to see that kind of hypocrisy in you.” His voice roughened into a growl. “It certainly wasn’t why you were made captain.”
He lowered his hat over his eyes. “I wish I knew what brought this change in you, and if it causes harm to others, there will be consequences.”
He paused. “I shouldn’t even deign your insult to my friendship with Juushiro with a response, but for the sake of our former friendship, I will. I spent the day with my best friend after he had been ill. I sought counsel with him on a matter that concerns both of us, and I hope it will ease the burden of the sorrows he carries for the choices and mistakes we’ve shouldered.”

"I asked if you still had faith in me because that is what I needed." Ryo's words were sharp and her tone was firm. "That doesn't make me moody. And, if misogynistic comments are all you can manage right now, I understand. Surely it must be unsettling to learn that one of your own has called your judgement and guidance into question. But, this wouldn't be the first time. And, I doubt it would be the last."
Ryo stepped closer to the Commander. "You want to know what's caused this change in me? Think back to the Captain's Meeting you called upon our return. Think back to you throwing a chocolate bar at a man having a mental break and then laughing about it. Or, that same meeting where Sousuke Aizen was allowed to enter, entertain himself and then leave unscathed. Think about your decision to allow both Gin Ichimaru and Kita Miyamoto to enter this realm freely. So what they have to be accompanied by an escort. You've allowed mass murderers to come and go as they damn well please because you have a soft heart for them. You've made no attempt to arrest Vale Tervaden, a man who also comes and goes as he pleases. The very same man who attempted to end the life of your best friend. Since you have such a soft heart and are willing to endanger the lives of those you swore to protect, why not release all the criminals in the Maggot's Nest?! Hm?! There is no real consequence under your rule!"
Ryo felt her fire rise deep inside. But she did not care. "You are no better than the Commander that have came before you. You're foolish men willing to wait until whole villages burn before they seek out the flame. Wait and see is not a tactic! And, it hasn't worked in the past and it is not working now! Men like Sousuke Aizen do not spawn from nothing. Men like you stoke the flames of their opposition. Men like you make it easy to destroy. And, so they do. You, Captain Commander Shunsui Kyoraku, are no longer worthy of following...” Ryo hesitated for a moment, before removing her haori. She held it out for the Commander to take.

Shunsui sighed as she let her ire lose on him, filing away the censure she let fly with each breath, lowering his head further when she removed her haori. “Keep your haori, Lady Hirabayashi, at least until our meeting in two days’ time. Stepping down now when the realms are just quieting would make you as much of a fool or imcompetent leader as you claim I have been. If you care about people, you can give me some time to find a replacement for you — if that is the solution you set for yourself after all your trouble to regain your place.” He turned around and looked up at the sky. “I apologize if my words seemed harsh. They were never meant to be misogynistic. But I appreciate you sharing your true feelings, harsh as they may be."
He walked over to the door and opened it. “I’ll leave you with a bit of truth in turn. Read the article on Miyamoto again before you judge her as harshly as you do me. She was younger than all of us when thrust into this war, and we have never let her stand down from it. Not for one single moment. It may have been wrong of me to throw candy at the Urahara boy in an effort to calm the room, but I had a duty to try. Sometimes a joke makes everything a little bit lighter. Laughter can be a healthy escape that hides the darkness of even endless duties, ones that continue to suck out more and more happiness from your long, long life. It- I failed that day.”
He glanced behind him. “I’ll explain other details at the coming meeting, especially the matter of Tervaden and Aizen. I don’t know if it will change your mind, but for the sake of your people, wait on giving your judgement or resignation then.”
He continued out. “Sometimes I forget how young a captain you actually are, Ryo Hirabayashi. You've supported me well in the past, so I hope I am not the reason you lose your spark again.”

Ryo held her breath until the Commander was gone. She exhaled loudly and allowed her hand holding the haori to fall by her side. She was still angry. And, she meant every word she said to the Commander. She looked down at the haori in her hand. "Ryo Komamura..." she whispered. "Temper...Temper..." she began to pace as she whispered. "You are the Flame of the Ninth..." Ryo looked behind her at the closed door. She would agree that it is easy to forget that she is among the youngest of the Captains. She was a mother of two and she was about half of Sajin's age. That was no excuse, however, for the conversation she just held with the Commander. There was a better way of handling this. But, she believed, at least for the moment...This was the best course to take. Ryo walked over to her desk and sat down. She sank into her seat, her haori still in her hand. What was this meeting the Commander was going to call? And, why now was he deciding to do something about Tervaden? "We'll see what changes...We'll see..." END RP "A Blaze in the Dark"
